"My wife and I were in town for my dad's wedding in downtown Barrington. The reason we booked at Days Inn was because it was only about a mile away from the festivities, and I wasn't aware of any other nearby loding (I later learned about a B&B that just opened in the area.) Considering I paid about $75/night and it was a reputable chain in an upscale town, I expected a clean, well-lit, and well-maintained property. When we arrived, I found something different. The sign out front, advertising "housekeeping staff needed" should've been a tipoff. Unfortunately, I'd prepaid for the room already, and we were in a hurry. Whatever housekeeping staff is currently employed needs some work. The bathroom was filthy, and I'm no neat freak. There was long, dark, hair in the tub, on the sink, and on the floor. Soap scum covered much of the tile in the shower. There was also hair in the bedding, both long and dark, and disturbingly short and curly. The lighting was inadequate. The dim lights only served to make the room appear more dingy. The decor, fixtures, and general condition of the room recall a housing project - it's time for a gut rehab. I'm a young college student who's traveled extensively on a shoestring, and none of the above-mentioned conditions were entirely new to me. The thing that bothered me most was that the Barrington Days Inn seemed like a $29 hotel room to me, and I paid over double that. My wife isn't as experienced as me, and she told me, "this is the second worst hotel room I've ever stayed in." We had already paid for 2 nights, but after the first night, the dingy, depressing, dirty room was too much for us. I ate the 2nd night's charge for the room, and we stayed with a friend nearby. I'll never stay in the Barrington Days Inn again. I'll never again book a Days Inn room without seeing it first, and I'll certainly be hesitant to ever again stay in any Days Inn after this experience.
